Igor Lins e Silva 8bc41e003c ci: bump the ruff pin with the dependency, and guard the drift
The dependabot bump moved pyproject's ruff pin to 0.16.1, but nothing else
followed it, so the repo asked for three different versions at once:

- pyproject.toml said 0.16.1 (the bump)
- uv.lock still resolved 0.15.20 (dependabot did not update it)
- .github/workflows/ci.yml installed 0.15.14 by its own literal pin

The lint job never reads pyproject, so CI kept linting with 0.15.14 and
reported this PR green without 0.16.1 ever running. The ci.yml pin had
already drifted from pyproject before this bump, under a comment saying to
keep them identical.

- ci.yml: pin 0.16.1 to match pyproject.
- uv.lock: regenerated so the locked resolution agrees.
- test_ruff_pins_match: assert ci.yml and pyproject stay equal, so the next
  bump that touches only one of them fails loudly instead of passing blind.
- extend-exclude '*.md': 0.16 began formatting Python inside markdown
  fences, taking the formatter from 199 files to 295 and reflowing
  hand-aligned example code in docs/rfcs/002 and three website pages.
  Excluding docs keeps this a version bump rather than a silent
  documentation reflow, and restores the exact file scope the project has
  always formatted.

Verified with 0.16.1 actually installed: ruff check and ruff format --check
both clean over the same 199 files, full suite green (3669 passed).

post-3.6.0 integrity spine into CHANGELOG: single-writer ownership,

Also ruff-format two test files that drifted during conflict merges.

Igor Lins e Silva 37194cf543 ci(test-windows): retry the transient ChromaDB HNSW compaction flake
ChromaDB's rust HNSW core intermittently fails compaction on Windows with
"Failed to apply logs to the hnsw segment writer" during add/update — a
long-standing, non-reproducible-on-Linux/macOS flake that hits different tests
(test_migrate_wings, test_closets) across unrelated commits and has been
turning otherwise-green release/CI runs red at random.

Add pytest-rerunfailures and wire `--reruns 2 --only-rerun "Failed to apply
logs to the hnsw segment writer"` into the test-windows job only. The
--only-rerun scope means a real, deterministic failure still fails on the first
run; only this specific transient native-dependency error is retried. The
Linux and macOS jobs deliberately keep zero reruns so genuine regressions
surface there loudly.

and promote the Unreleased changelog to 3.4.1.

Shipping: Cursor IDE plugin + hooks, first-class Antigravity IDE
support (with zero-config interpreter resolution), embeddinggemma
bulk re-embed OOM fix, and backup-retention pruning.

Also rebuilds the CHANGELOG compare-link block, which had been left
at v3.2.0: adds the full 3.3.0-3.4.1 chain plus the previously
undocumented 3.4.0, and points Unreleased at v3.4.1...HEAD. Every
version header now resolves to a compare link.

Igor Lins e Silva 212051da35 feat(backends): embedder-identity contract + three-state enforcement (RFC 001, #1724)
The explicit-embedding backends (pgvector, qdrant, sqlite_exact) embed through
EmbeddingCollection and persist nothing about which model produced their
vectors. Swapping two same-dimension models (minilm <-> embeddinggemma, both
384-d) silently corrupts retrieval with no error — the worst failure class for
a verbatim-recall system. This records the model name and refuses a swap on open.

- base.py: EmbedderIdentity dataclass, Embedder protocol,
  EmbedderIdentityUnknownWarning, and a three-state check_embedder_identity()
  helper (known_match / known_mismatch / unknown) raising
  EmbedderIdentityMismatchError / DimensionMismatchError. BaseCollection gains
  get/set/effective_embedder_identity hooks.
- embedding.py: current_model_name() (cheap) + get_embedder_identity() (probed
  dimension, cached per process).
- Persistence per backend: sqlite_exact meta table, pgvector marker JSON
  (preserved across rewrites), chroma sidecar JSON. EmbeddingCollection forwards
  the hooks explicitly (BaseCollection methods shadow __getattr__).
- palace.get_collection enforces at open: a model swap raises; a brand-new empty
  collection records the current model; a populated-but-unrecorded legacy palace
  warns and is resolved via the CLI. The check needs no model load.
- CLI: `mempalace palace set-embedder [--model NAME] [--force]` records/overrides
  identity without mutating global config or loading a foreign model.

Chroma additionally keeps its native embedding-function check. Qdrant identity
persistence is a fast-follow (no local metadata slot — needs a companion store).

Igor Lins e Silva ec5d1eb1c7 feat: add pgvector backend + namespace-isolation conformance contract
Adds a second external storage backend (Postgres/pgvector) alongside Qdrant
to prove the BaseBackend/BaseCollection contract generalizes across substrates
(SQL + JSONB containment filters + pgvector `<=>` ranking vs Qdrant's REST/dict
model), and addresses the review feedback on PR #1679.

Backend (mempalace/backends/pgvector.py):
- table-per-(namespace, palace, collection) isolation; advertises
  supports_namespace_isolation
- JSONB filter pushdown for the containment subset, local-exact fallback for
  $or/$contains/comparisons/where_document
- BM25 lexical search; marker-based mismatch protection
- optional psycopg dependency (lazy import), in-memory fake for CI, live test
  gated on MEMPALACE_PGVECTOR_LIVE_URL
- registered in registry/__init__/pyproject entry point + [pgvector] extra;
  MEMPALACE_PGVECTOR_DSN / MEMPALACE_PGVECTOR_NAMESPACE config; README docs

Isolation contract (RFC 001):
- PalaceRef/BaseBackend document the per-id MUST and the cross-namespace MUST,
  gated on the new supports_namespace_isolation capability token
- runnable conformance suite (tests/_backend_conformance.py,
  tests/test_backend_conformance.py); qdrant + pgvector run it via their fakes

Marker fail-loud guard:
- qdrant and pgvector now refuse get_collection when local_path is None instead
  of silently opening a remote collection with no mismatch protection

Review fixes:
- palace._open_collection_or_explain handles unknown-backend KeyError as a CLI
  state message instead of an escaping stack trace
- dedup.py docstring no longer claims "No API calls" unconditionally (false for
  remote backends)

Resolves conflicts in CHANGELOG.md and pyproject.toml by combining
the multilingual-embedder additions (huggingface_hub/tokenizers/numpy
core deps, [multilingual] alias, Features section) with develop's
additions (python-dateutil core dep, [extract] extra, tunnel Bug
Fixes and Internal sections).

Prepares PR #1483 for merge into v3.3.6.

Igor Lins e Silva 1d8a800cca Merge origin/develop into feat/benchmark-multilingual
Resolve conflicts:
- backends/chroma.py: keep both new except handlers in get_collection
  (CollectionNotInitializedError from develop + EF-mismatch helper from
  this branch), ordered _ChromaNotFoundError before ValueError to match
  the create-branch handler order.
- uv.lock: regenerated from merged pyproject.toml.

Fix lint: ruff format mempalace/embedding.py + tests/test_embeddinggemma.py
(CI now pins ruff==0.15.9 via develop's workflow update).

Full suite: 1923 passed, 1 skipped.

Igor Lins e Silva 96a327233d ci(lint): pin ruff to 0.15.9 across CI and dev deps
CI installed `ruff>=0.4.0,<0.5` (resolves 0.4.10) while contributors
run modern ruff (0.5+). ruff 0.5 changed assert-message formatting, so
valid code formatted by a current ruff fails CI's `ruff format --check .`
on layout alone. This blocked #1438, #1445, and #1528 — each needing a
manual reformat-and-push cycle with no actual code defect.

Pin an exact, modern ruff in both pyproject dev lists and in ci.yml so
CI and `pip install -e ".[dev]"` format/lint identically. No new
`ruff check` violations under the existing E/F/W/C901 select.

Igor Lins e Silva 8a6537d2fb feat(onboarding): multilingual embedder by default for new installs
Onboarding now asks the user once, on first run, whether to use the
multilingual embedding model. The default answer is yes — defaulting to
English-only made the recall promise effectively unreachable for any
non-English content (cross-lingual cos ~0.35 vs ~0.88 for the multilingual
model). The choice is written to config.json so subsequent runs pick the
right EF without re-prompting; existing installs that never set the env
var or ran onboarding stay on minilm for back-compat. MEMPALACE_EMBEDDING_MODEL
still overrides both.

Multilingual deps (huggingface_hub, tokenizers, numpy) move from the
[multilingual] extra into core. The extra is kept as a no-op alias so
existing install scripts keep working. The 300 MB ONNX model is still
lazy-downloaded on first use, not at install time.

`quick_setup` (the programmatic non-interactive path) grows an optional
`embedding_model` arg so tests and benchmark scripts can pick a model
without writing config.json by accident.

EmbeddinggemmaONNX's "missing deps" error now points at the right
recovery path (reinstall mempalace, since the deps are core) rather
than the obsolete pip install mempalace[multilingual] hint.

Tests: 9 new (3 _ask_embedding_model variants + 2 run_onboarding
persistence + 2 quick_setup + 2 set_embedding_model round-trips). The
existing 2 run_onboarding tests now patch _ask_embedding_model so they
don't print to stdout.

Igor Lins e Silva 51702e9f0f feat(embedding): add embeddinggemma-300m ONNX as opt-in multilingual embedder
MemPalace's default embedder (all-MiniLM-L6-v2) is English-only-trained.
Cross-lingual cosine similarity on parallel-translated text averages 0.35
across DE/FR/HI/IT/KO/RU — vs 0.88 for embeddinggemma-300m ONNX (q8) with
the semantic-similarity prefix. RU is the worst at 0.17, meaning a Russian
memory and its identical English translation embed to nearly orthogonal
vectors. Multilingual users effectively cannot retrieve their own memories.

This commit adds embeddinggemma-300m as an opt-in alternative:

* New EmbeddinggemmaONNX class implementing ChromaDB's EF protocol.
  Lazy-downloads model_quantized.onnx (~300 MB) via huggingface_hub on
  first use; cached under ~/.cache/huggingface/. Applies the sim prefix,
  runs onnxruntime inference, truncates to 384 dims via Matryoshka
  (MRL), L2-normalizes.

* MRL truncation to 384d is intentional: matches MiniLM's vector width
  so collection schemas don't change, and validation showed 384d MRL
  actually outperforms full 768d on these similarity tasks (0.893 vs
  0.881 avg) — known property of MRL training.

* MEMPALACE_EMBEDDING_MODEL env (default "minilm" for back-compat).
  Switching models on an existing palace requires re-embedding —
  ChromaDB rejects reads with a mismatched EF name. Run
  `mempalace repair rebuild-index` after changing the value.

* New optional dep group: pip install mempalace[multilingual]
  Adds huggingface_hub + tokenizers + numpy. Core deps unchanged.

ONNX q8 validated lossless vs the Ollama gguf benchmarked previously
(max delta 0.002 cos across 240 parallel pairs).

Igor Lins e Silva 25bfd37644 chore(release): sync 3.3.4 version bump back into develop
The v3.3.4 release prep landed on main but was never merged back into
develop, leaving every version-bearing file one release behind. Bumps
pyproject.toml, mempalace/version.py, both plugin manifests, the
marketplace entry, the README badge, and the lockfile to 3.3.4 to match
the tagged release.

Igor Lins e Silva a4868a3589 perf(mining): batch per-chunk upserts and add optional GPU acceleration
The miner upserted one drawer per ChromaDB call, paying tokenizer +
ONNX session setup per chunk. The embedding device was CPU-only because
no EmbeddingFunction was ever wired through the backend.

Two changes, each a speedup in its own right; stacked they give ~10x
end-to-end on a medium corpus (20 files, 568 drawers):

1. Batched upsert. `process_file` and `_file_chunks_locked` now collect
   all chunks of a file into a single `collection.upsert(...)` so the
   embedding model runs one forward pass per file instead of N.

2. Hardware-accelerated embedding function. New `mempalace/embedding.py`
   wraps `ONNXMiniLM_L6_V2` with configurable `preferred_providers`.
   `MEMPALACE_EMBEDDING_DEVICE` (or `embedding_device` in config.json)
   selects auto / cpu / cuda / coreml / dml. Unavailable accelerators
   log a warning and fall back to CPU.

   The factory subclasses `ONNXMiniLM_L6_V2` and spoofs its `name()` to
   `"default"` so the persisted EF identity matches existing palaces
   created with ChromaDB's bare `DefaultEmbeddingFunction` -- same
   model, same 384-dim vectors, no rebuild needed when turning GPU on.

   `ChromaBackend.get_collection` / `create_collection` now pass the
   resolved EF on every call so miner writes and searcher reads agree.

Benchmarks (i9-12900KF + RTX 3090, medium scenario, 568 drawers):

  per-chunk + CPU   19.77s ·  29 drw/s   (baseline)
  batched   + CPU    8.07s ·  70 drw/s   (2.4x)
  batched   + CUDA   2.15s · 264 drw/s   (9.2x)

Reproducible via `benchmarks/mine_bench.py`.

Install paths:

  pip install mempalace[coreml]    # macOS Neural Engine

Mine header now prints `Device: cpu|cuda|...` so users can confirm the
accelerator engaged.

Igor Lins e Silva 14d7444abe fix(deps): add tomli fallback for Python <3.11
`tomllib` is stdlib only in Python 3.11+. On Python 3.9/3.10 (and the
macOS runner) the scanner's toml parsing returned empty, so manifest
lookups for `pyproject.toml` / `Cargo.toml` produced no name. CI
surfaced this via 4 test_project_scanner.py failures on the 3.9 matrix.

Add `tomli>=2.0.0` as a conditional dependency for `python_version <
'3.11'` and fall back to it in `project_scanner.py`. The project still
declares `requires-python = ">=3.9"` so the fallback is the correct
shape.

Restore-integrity release. Unbreaks fresh `pip install mempalace` from
v3.3.2 by re-tagging current develop, which carries both the plugin.json
consumer (shipped in 3.3.2) and the matching mempalace-mcp entry point
in pyproject.toml (added on develop ~10h after the 3.3.2 tag via #340
by @messelink). #1093 diagnosed by @jphein.

CI-fix commits aren't gated behind a nested PR. (Supersedes #1143 —
closed for exactly that reason after it missed 3 of 5 version files.)

Pim Messelink 9f5b8f5fd6 fix: add mempalace-mcp console entry point for pipx/uv compatibility
The MCP server config used `python -m mempalace.mcp_server` which fails
when mempalace is installed via pipx or uv, since the system python
cannot find the module in the isolated venv. Adding a `mempalace-mcp`
console_scripts entry point ensures the MCP server works regardless of
installation method (pip, pipx, uv, conda).

Lands the read-side contract so third-party adapter authors (@Perseusxrltd,
@JakobSachs, @adv3nt3, @zendesk-thittesdorf, @mfhens, @roip, @MrDys) have a
stable target matching what RFC 001 §10 landed on the write side in #995.

Scope (this PR):

- mempalace/sources/base.py: BaseSourceAdapter ABC with kwargs-only
  ingest() / describe_schema() and default is_current() / source_summary()
  / close() (§1.1–1.2). Typed records: SourceRef, SourceItemMetadata,
  DrawerRecord, RouteHint, SourceSummary, AdapterSchema, FieldSpec (§1.3,
  §5.2). Error classes: SourceNotFoundError, AuthRequiredError,
  AdapterClosedError, TransformationViolationError, SchemaConformanceError
  (§2.7). Class-level identity contract: name / adapter_version /
  capabilities / supported_modes / declared_transformations /
  default_privacy_class (§2.1, §1.4, §1.5, §6).

- mempalace/sources/transforms.py: reference implementations of the 13
  reserved transformations (§1.4) — utf8_replace_invalid, newline_normalize,
  whitespace_trim, whitespace_collapse_internal, line_trim, line_join_spaces,
  blank_line_drop — as pure functions, plus identity shims for the six
  adapter-specific ones (strip_tool_chrome, tool_result_truncate,
  tool_result_omitted, spellcheck_user, synthesized_marker,
  speaker_role_assignment) that the conversations adapter will override
  when migrated. get_transformation(name) resolves by reserved name.

- mempalace/sources/registry.py: entry-point discovery via
  importlib.metadata.entry_points(group="mempalace.sources") + explicit
  register()/unregister() surface (§3.1–3.2). resolve_adapter_for_source()
  implements the §3.3 priority order; crucially, no auto-detection on the
  read side (§3.3 is explicit about that — user intent never inferred from
  on-disk artifacts).

- mempalace/sources/context.py: PalaceContext facade (§9) bundling the
  drawer/closet collections, knowledge graph, palace path, adapter identity,
  and progress hooks core passes into adapter.ingest(). upsert_drawer()
  applies the spec-mandated adapter_name/adapter_version stamps from §5.1.
  skip_current_item() signals laziness; emit() dispatches to hooks and
  swallows hook exceptions.

- mempalace/knowledge_graph.py: add_triple() gains optional source_drawer_id
  and adapter_name kwargs (§5.5). Backwards-compatible column migration
  auto-adds the new columns on open of a pre-RFC 002 palace (PRAGMA
  table_info then ALTER TABLE ADD COLUMN), matching the pattern used for
  any new palace-side provenance fields.

- pyproject.toml: mempalace.sources entry-point group declared. Empty on
  the first-party side for now — miners migrate in a follow-up; the group
  being present means third-party packages can begin registering today.

Out of scope (explicit follow-ups):

- miner.py → mempalace/sources/filesystem.py. Behavior-preserving rename
  that also moves READABLE_EXTENSIONS, detect_room(), detect_hall() into
  the adapter (§9). Larger refactor; lands separately.
- convo_miner.py + normalize.py → mempalace/sources/conversations.py. The
  format-detection if-chain in normalize.py becomes per-format plugins;
  declared_transformations enumerates what the current pipeline already
  does to source bytes (§1.4 existing-code mapping).
- Closet post-step wired into the conversations adapter (§1.7).
- CLI --source flag + --mode deprecation alias (§3.3).
- MCP mempalace_mine tool source parameter.
- AbstractSourceAdapterContractSuite (§7.1–7.3): byte-preservation round-
  trip and declared-transformation round-trip tests.
- Privacy-class floor enforcement (§6.2); depends on #389 for
  secrets_possible scanning.

Tests: 1018 passed (up from ~990 on develop), +27 targeted tests covering
the ABC instantiation rules, typed records, all reserved transformations,
the registry register/get/unregister surface, PalaceContext upsert + skip +
emit semantics, and both the new KG provenance kwargs and backwards-
compatible legacy-schema migration.

Advances RFC 001 §10 cleanup so backend-author PRs (#574 LanceDB, #665 Postgres,
#700 Qdrant, #697 hosted, #643 PalaceStore, #381 Qdrant) have a stable target
to align against.

Scope (this PR):

- Typed QueryResult / GetResult dataclasses replace Chroma's dict shape at
  the BaseCollection boundary (§1.3). A transitional _DictCompatMixin keeps
  existing callers working while the attribute-access migration proceeds.
- BaseCollection is now kwargs-only across add/upsert/query/get/delete/update
  with ABC defaults for estimated_count/close/health and a non-atomic default
  update() (§1.1–1.2).
- PalaceRef replaces raw path strings at the backend boundary (§2.2).
- BaseBackend ABC with get_collection/close_palace/close/health/detect (§2.3).
- mempalace.backends entry-point group + in-tree registry with
  resolve_backend_for_palace priority order matching §3.2–3.3.
- ChromaCollection normalizes chroma returns into typed results; unknown
  where-clause operators raise UnsupportedFilterError (no silent drop, §1.4).
- ChromaBackend absorbs the inode/mtime client-cache freshness check
  previously duplicated in mcp_server._get_client() (§10 + PR #757).
- searcher.py migrated to typed-attribute access as the reference call
  site; remaining callers land in a follow-up.
- pyproject: chroma registered via [project.entry-points."mempalace.backends"].

Out of scope (explicit follow-ups):

- Full caller migration off the dict-compat shim across palace.py,
  mcp_server.py, miner.py, convo_miner.py, dedup.py, repair.py, exporter.py,
  palace_graph.py, cli.py, closet_llm.py.
- Embedder injection + three-state EmbedderIdentityMismatchError check (§1.5).
- maintenance_state() / run_maintenance() benchmark hooks (§7.3).
- AbstractBackendContractSuite full coverage (§7.1–7.2).
- mempalace migrate / mempalace verify CLI rewrites through BaseCollection (§8).

Tests: 970 passed (up from 967 on develop); new coverage for typed results,
empty-result outer-shape preservation, \$regex rejection, registry lookup,
priority resolver, and PalaceRef-kwarg ChromaBackend.get_collection.

Unix, msvcrt on Windows). Both miner.py and convo_miner.py now lock
per-file during the delete+insert cycle and re-check after acquiring
the lock.

Tested:
- Lock acquires and releases correctly
- Second agent blocks until first releases (0.25s wait)
- 33/33 existing tests pass
- Cross-platform: fcntl (macOS/Linux), msvcrt (Windows)

- Closet contains extracted topics, entities, quotes as pointers
- Closets pack up to 1500 chars, topics never split mid-entry
- Search hits closets first (fast, small), then hydrates the
  full drawer content for matching files
- Falls back to direct drawer search if no closets exist yet

Files changed:
- palace.py: get_closets_collection(), build_closet_text(),
  upsert_closet(), CLOSET_CHAR_LIMIT
- miner.py: process_file() now creates closets after drawers
- searcher.py: search_memories() tries closet-first search,
  hydrates drawers, falls back to direct search

Backwards compatible — existing palaces without closets continue
to work via the fallback path. Closets are created on next mine.

689/689 tests pass.

The initial strip_noise() regressed on three fronts when audited against
adversarial user content — each verified with executable repros against
the cherry-picked code:

  1. `<tag>.*?</tag>` with re.DOTALL span-ate across messages: one
     stray unclosed <system-reminder> anywhere in a session merged with
     the next closing tag, silently deleting everything between them
     (including full assistant replies).
  2. `.*\(ctrl\+o to expand\).*\n?` nuked entire lines of user prose
     whenever a user happened to document the TUI shortcut.
  3. `Ran \d+ (?:stop|pre|post)\s*hook.*` with IGNORECASE ate the
     second sentence from "our CI has a stop hook ... Ran 2 stop hooks
     last week" — legitimate user commentary.

These are unambiguous violations of the project's "Verbatim always"
design principle.

Fixes:

- All tag patterns are now line-anchored (`(?m)^(?:> )?<tag>`) and their
  body forbids crossing a blank line (`(?:(?!\n\s*\n)[\s\S])*?`), so a
  dangling open tag cannot eat neighboring messages.
- `_NOISE_LINE_PREFIXES` are line-anchored and case-sensitive — user
  prose mentioning "CURRENT TIME:" mid-sentence is preserved.
- Hook-run chrome requires `(?m)^`, explicit hook names (Stop,
  PreCompact, PreToolUse, etc.), and no IGNORECASE.
- "… +N lines" is line-anchored.
- "(ctrl+o to expand)" only matches Claude Code's actual collapsed-
  output chrome shape `[N tokens] (ctrl+o to expand)`; a bare
  parenthetical in user prose stays intact.

Scope:

- `strip_noise()` is no longer called on every normalization path.
  Only `_try_claude_code_jsonl` invokes it, per-extracted-message — so
  Claude.ai exports, ChatGPT exports, Slack JSON, Codex JSONL, and
  plain text with `>` markers pass through fully verbatim. Per-message
  application also makes span-eating structurally impossible.

Tests:

- 15 new tests in test_normalize.py pin the boundary: 6 guard user
  content that must survive (each of the adversarial repros), 9 assert
  real system chrome is still stripped. All pass; full suite 702 pass
  (2 failures are the unrelated pre-existing version.py bug, cleared
  by #820).

Known limitation (not fixed here): convo_miner.py does not delete
drawers on re-mine, so transcripts mined before this PR keep noise-
filled drawers until the user manually erases + re-mines. Proper fix
needs a schema-version field on drawer metadata + re-mine trigger —
out of scope for this PR.

* feat(normalize): auto-rebuild stale drawers via NORMALIZE_VERSION schema gate

Without this, the strip_noise improvement only helps new mines. Every
user who had already mined Claude Code JSONL sessions would keep their
noise-polluted drawers forever, because convo_miner's file_already_mined
skip short-circuits before re-processing.

Adds a versioned schema gate so upgrades propagate silently:

- palace.NORMALIZE_VERSION=2 — bumped when the normalization pipeline
  changes shape (this PR's strip_noise is the v1→v2 bump).
- file_already_mined now returns False if the stored normalize_version
  is missing or less than current, triggering a rebuild on next mine.
- Both miners stamp drawers with the current normalize_version.
- convo_miner now purges stale drawers before inserting fresh chunks
  (mirrors miner.py's existing delete+insert), extracted into
  _file_convo_chunks helper to keep mine_convos under ruff's C901 limit.

User experience: upgrade mempalace, run `mempalace mine` as usual, old
noisy drawers get silently replaced with clean ones. No erase needed,
no "you need to rebuild" changelog footgun.

Tests:
- test_file_already_mined_returns_false_for_stale_normalize_version —
  pins the version gate contract for missing/v1/current.
- test_add_drawer_stamps_normalize_version — fresh project-miner drawers
  carry the field.
- test_mine_convos_rebuilds_stale_drawers_after_schema_bump — end-to-end
  proof that a pre-v2 palace gets silently cleaned on next mine, with
  orphan drawers purged and NOT skipped.

Existing test_file_already_mined_check_mtime updated to include the
new field; all other tests unaffected.

* fix: stop hooks from making agents write in chat — save tokens

The save hook and precompact hook were telling the agent to write
diary entries, add drawers, and add KG triples IN THE CHAT WINDOW.
Every line written stays in conversation history and retransmits on
every subsequent turn — ~$1/session in wasted tokens.

Fix: hooks now say "saved in background, no action needed" and use
decision: allow instead of block. The agent continues working without
interruption. All filing happens via the background pipeline.

Also updated hooks README with:
- Known limitation: hooks require session restart after install
- Updated cost section: zero tokens, background-only

## Dead paths the PR body advertised but the code never executed

Both buried by a single outer ``except Exception: pass``:

  * ``kg.query(subject)`` — ``KnowledgeGraph`` has no ``query()`` method;
    it has ``query_entity()``. The attribute error was silently swallowed
    and the entire KG branch always returned ``[]``. Now using
    ``kg.query_entity(subject, direction="outgoing")`` with proper
    handling of the ``predicate``/``object``/``current``/``valid_to``
    fields the real API returns.
  * ``KnowledgeGraph(palace_path=palace_path)`` — the constructor's only
    kwarg is ``db_path``. Passing ``palace_path`` raised TypeError,
    silently swallowed. Now computing the db_path correctly from
    ``<palace>/knowledge_graph.sqlite3``, matching the convention the
    MCP server already uses.

## Contradiction logic rewritten

The previous ``if kg_pred in claim and fact.object not in claim`` only
fired when text used the SAME predicate word as the KG fact — the exact
opposite of the stated use case ("Bob is Alice's brother" when KG says
husband" would NOT have fired). Replaced with a proper parse → lookup
→ compare pipeline:

  * ``_extract_claims`` parses two surface forms ("X is Y's Z" and
    "X's Z is Y") into ``(subject, predicate, object)`` triples.
  * ``_check_kg_contradictions`` pulls the subject's outgoing facts
    and flags two classes:
      - ``relationship_mismatch`` when a current KG fact matches the
        same ``(subject, object)`` pair but with a different predicate.
      - ``stale_fact`` when the exact triple exists but is
        ``valid_to``-closed in the past.
  * Stale-fact detection is now implemented (the PR body claimed it;
    the old code silently didn't implement it).

## Performance fix — O(n²) → O(mentioned × n)

``_check_entity_confusion`` previously computed Levenshtein for every
pair of registered names on every ``check_text`` call. For 1,000
registered names that's ~500K edit-distance calls per hook invocation.
Now we first identify which registry names actually appear in the text
(single regex scan), then only compute edit distance between mentioned
and unmentioned names. Pinned by a test that asserts <200ms on a 500-
name registry with zero mentions.

Also: when *both* similar names are mentioned in the text, we no
longer flag them — the user clearly knows they're different people.

## Shared entity-registry loader

``mempalace/miner.py`` already had an mtime-cached loader for
``~/.mempalace/known_entities.json``. fact_checker had a duplicate
implementation that leaked file handles and ignored caching. Extended
miner's cache to expose both the flat set (``_load_known_entities``)
and the raw category dict (``_load_known_entities_raw``); fact_checker
now imports the latter. No more double disk reads, no more handle leak.

## Tests — 24 cases in tests/test_fact_checker.py

All three detection paths + both dead-code regressions:
  * ``test_kg_init_uses_db_path_not_palace_path_kwarg`` — pins the
    correct KG constructor signature so the ``palace_path=`` bug can't
    come back.
  * ``test_relationship_mismatch_detected`` — the headline example from
    the PR body now actually fires.
  * ``test_stale_fact_detected`` — valid_to-closed triple is flagged.
  * ``test_current_fact_same_triple_is_not_flagged`` — no false positive
    on a still-valid match.
  * ``test_performance_bounded_by_mentioned_names`` — 500-name registry,
    zero mentions, <200ms. Regression for the O(n²) blowup.
  * ``test_no_false_positive_when_both_names_mentioned`` — Mila and
    Milla in the same text is fine.
  * Plus claim extraction, flatten_names shapes, CLI exit code, empty
    text handling, missing-palace graceful fallback, registry-dict
    shape support.

785/785 suite pass. ruff + format clean on CI-pinned 0.4.x.

* Optimize entity detection with regex caching and pre-compilation

- Use functools.lru_cache to cache compiled patterns for entity names.
- Pre-compile static pronoun patterns into a single regex.
- Remove redundant .lower() calls in score_entity loop.

Follow-up to #766 which covers version.py, pyproject.toml, README,
CHANGELOG, and CONTRIBUTING. These 11 files still had the old org
name in URLs:

- website/ (VitePress config + 6 docs pages)
- .claude-plugin/ (plugin.json repository, README marketplace command)
- .codex-plugin/ (plugin.json URLs, README links)

Author name fields are intentionally unchanged.

* test: make diary state path assertion platform-neutral

The Windows CI job failed on:

    assert '/.mempalace/state/' in str(state_path)

because Windows uses ``\`` as the path separator, so the substring
never matches. The behavior under test (state file lives outside the
diary dir, under ``~/.mempalace/state/``) is already correct on both
platforms — only the assertion was Unix-only.

Switch to ``state_path.parent`` comparisons that work on any OS.

* test: serialize mine_lock concurrency test with multiprocessing

The macOS CI job failed ``test_lock_blocks_concurrent_access`` because
``fcntl.flock`` on BSD/macOS is per-*process*, not per-FD: two threads
in the same process both acquire even when they open their own file
descriptors. The test passed on Linux (per-FD flock) and Windows
(per-FD ``msvcrt.locking``) but was never actually exercising the
lock's real contract.

``mine_lock`` is designed to serialize multi-*agent* access — i.e.,
separate processes, not threads. Switch the test to
``multiprocessing.get_context('spawn')`` with a module-level worker
(so the spawn pickles cleanly) so it:

  1. reflects the actual use case (one lock per mining process);
  2. passes on all three OSes without flock-semantics branching;
  3. catches real regressions (a broken lock would now let both
     processes through, exactly what we care about).

Hold time bumped to 0.3s and the "wait until p1 acquires" delay to
0.2s to tolerate spawn's higher startup latency on macOS/Windows.

* test: verify mine_lock via disjoint critical-section intervals

The previous revision used multiprocessing but still relied on timing
("second process waited at least N seconds") which flakes on CI where
spawn overhead eats into the hold window. Linux CI observed the second
process report a 0.088s wait — below the 0.1s threshold — even though
the lock behavior was correct; spawn was just slow enough that the
first process had nearly finished holding when the second got past
its own spawn.

Switch to effect-based verification: each worker logs its
[enter_time, exit_time] inside the critical section, and the test
asserts the two intervals are disjoint after sorting. A broken lock
would produce overlapping intervals regardless of spawn latency; a
working lock cannot.

Also removed the mp.Queue since we no longer pass timing data back.

* Fix: ruff format with CI-pinned version (0.4.x)

5. Wake-up token cost: "~170 tokens" → "~600-900 tokens" (matches layers.py)
6. pyproject.toml version in project structure: v3.0.0 → v3.2.0
7. Hall detection: added detect_hall() to miner.py — drawers now tagged
   with hall metadata so palace_graph.py can build hall connections

New code:
- miner.py: detect_hall() — keyword scoring against config hall_keywords,
  writes hall field to every drawer's metadata
- tests/test_hall_detection.py — 12 TDD tests (written before code)
- tests/test_readme_claims.py — 42 TDD tests verifying README accuracy

859/859 tests pass.

Replace "your memory system" with explicit MemPalace references and

in stop and precompact hook block reasons. This prevents Claude Code from
misinterpreting the hook as a native auto-memory save instruction.

Updated in both Python (hooks_cli.py) and standalone shell scripts.

Also fix CONTRIBUTING.md Getting Started to show the fork-first workflow,
matching the PR Guidelines section.

* fix: remove chromadb <0.7 upper bound — blocks 1.x installs

The current constraint `chromadb>=0.5.0,<0.7` forces pip to install
chromadb 0.6.x, but palaces created with chromadb 1.x (which is what
the mempalace dev environment actually uses — 1.5.7 per uv.lock) have
an incompatible SQLite schema. Specifically, chromadb 0.6.x fails with
`KeyError: '_type'` when opening a collection written by 1.x.

This means a fresh `pip install mempalace` gives users a chromadb
version that cannot read palaces created in the maintainer's own
environment. The fix removes the upper bound so pip can resolve to the
current stable chromadb release.

Reproduction:
  python3 -m venv .venv && source .venv/bin/activate
  pip install mempalace          # installs chromadb 0.6.3
  # Try opening a palace created with chromadb 1.x:
  # -> _get_collection() returns None, tool_status() returns "No palace found"
  pip install chromadb==1.5.7    # force upgrade
  # -> tool_status() returns real data (26k drawers in our case)
